THE GHOSTS OF LOVERS PAST

We all have a ghost, or more, tucked under the pillows of our chest. A dark romance which dissipated and took the shape of dust and choked us with remorse. A runaway bride in the shadows of the night. The flaming face of jealousy. The rotten nerve of scandal. L’innocence perdue. They awaken at Christmas, in a whirlwind of sensations and emotions, like a hurricane that reverberates through the heart and the mind in one base root note and vibration: “If we do not have peace then we have forgotten we belong to each other“.

THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS is a very dear film to me, so making this pictorial was a labor of love and huge acomplishment.

The Royal Tenenbaums is a 2001 American comedy-drama film directed by Wes Anderson and co-written with Owen Wilson. The film stars Gene Hackman and Anjelica Huston, with Danny Glover, Bill Murray, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, and Owen Wilson.

It follows the lives of three gifted siblings who experience great success in youth, and even greater disappointment and failure after their eccentric father leaves them in their adolescent years. An ironic and absurdist sense of humor pervades the film.

The main story centers on step brothers Margot and Richie Tenenbaum‘s secret love affair, which we interpreted as consumed after Royal’s death.

How to shoot a royalty in 10 easy steps

I took the time to pick some making of shots from the weekend I embodied ANNA de Noailles for Alexandra Vacaroiu and her great photographer talent. Since these could not fit in the pictorial but were also too good to waste, I decided to make a selection and post it here. For the pictorial, jump here.

Also, listen to this amazing tune my friend Felix found tonight:

ANNA DE NOAILLES. THE AGE OF DESIRE

French aristocrat poet with Romanian origins Comtesse Anna de Noailles has been the most prominent of my recent musings. She wrote three novels, an autobiography, and a number of poems. At the beginning of the 20th century, her salon on the Avenue Hoche attracted the intellectual, literary and artistic elite of the day including Francis Jammes, Paul Claudel, Colette, André Gide, Frédéric Mistral, Robert de Montesquiou-Fezensac, Paul Valéry, Jean Cocteau, Alphonse Daudet, Pierre Loti, Paul Hervieu, and Max Jacob. Although she was not so remembered in our country for her poetry and autobiographic work, De Noailles seduced the French with her quirky charm and blunt eroticism, also portrayed by many artists of the age. Her lyrics speak of lustful desire, like a drug for the heart.

Based on this heartsnatcher’s story, this is the first RUFFLES FOR BREAKFAST pictorial (well not the first, but the first I’m proud of) and my first “serious” work as a stylist. We tried to embody this free spirited artist’s feminine savageness and to make her walk in modern, yet seasoned by her taste, shoes.

The artist behind the camera was the very talented ALEXANDRA VACAROIU.

And the shoot took place with the help of the guys from CAROL 53.

*Title inspired by book with the same name by Jennie Fields.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Lover from Ukraine

Lover from Ukraine is the name of the wonderful curve I used to polish these after Catalin took them in January. Still I couldn’t find the time to edit them until tonight. After I typed the title it made sense, with the fur and all.

Since some of you asked me if I can post new excerpts from my second novel in progress, here is something from April that I’ve been contemplating for a long time without enough resources to finish:
